When installing sod or sods in 100 plus heat indexes you may be wondering the best ways to ensure desirable results. Every jobsite and project is slightly different in terms of execution but your sod for the most part will need a few very basic things to do well in its new home. We are going to cover a few quick tips that will help you protect your sod.
1) Always be prepared to water – Whether you are installing a couple rolls of sod or you are installing multiple semi loads of sod, The first couple days your sod is working to get established you must saturate the ground with water continuously. Your sod will need the extra water during these extremely hot heat indexes.
2) Fertilize Before You Install – If you want to fertilize your sod, do so before installation for the sods roots to absorb while getting established. Your sod will appreciate the extra food when working to get established at a new location.
3) Wait on Fescue Sod Installations – When the temperature is over 100 degrees even if they are selling fescue sod we do not recommend installing in extreme temperatures. Fescue Sod’s roots do not like extreme heat when getting established in a new location. You can over and under-seed fescue year round.
4) Stay off Your New Lawn – When sod is getting established its best to stay off. Doing this will allow your sod to get established the fastest and produce the most and healthiest blades of grass. If you are looking to get your turf full for the holiday season start getting all your installation done July, August to make sure your new lawn is established early!
