What Should You Put Down Before Laying Sod?

Before laying sod, prep your soil like it’s about to meet royalty. Remove weeds, rocks, and debris, then till and loosen the top 2–4 inches of soil so roots can dig in. Fix drainage issues before you regret it, and don’t lay sod on top of hard, compacted ground. Sod needs air, water, and room to grow β€” just like your family after Thanksgiving. Level the surface, smooth out weird dips or humps, and lightly water the soil so it’s moist (not soggy). That’s it. No fluff. Just good dirt.
